Injection Moulding Machine: How to Choose the Right One

The injection moulding process requires precision as different polymers have different limitations and characteristics. Temperature control, injection speed, and melt viscosity determine the outcome, and it is, therefore, important to pick the right machine for the job.

Plastic and products

Choose the injection moulding machine based on the plastics you use and the product needed. Different products require different precisions, stability injection speed and injection pressure among other requirements. The moulding machines are also of different types so the best choice will be determined by the product requirements.

Can accommodate the mould

The moulding machine has specifications for the mold's minimum width and height. It is also important to note that once the product is finished, you need to retrieve it.  So check the opening stroke to ensure that it is larger than the finished product otherwise the product will be stuck. Based on these considerations, pick one whose size suits your requirements.

Can accommodate the pressure

The clamping force is determined by the plastic used and the expected end product. The pressure produced when the plastic injects into the mould cavity may create a bulge and interfere with the moulding process if the machine is not designed to take that kind of mould pressure. Know the in-mold pressure for your materials so as to make the right choice.

Injection quantity

This is determined by the volume of your intended final product. Go for an injecting moulding machine that produces enough volume to meet your needs to avoid under production.

Injection pressure and speed

Injection pressure and compression ration determine whether a moulding will be good or not. A screw with a smaller diameter generally gives a higher injection pressure. Mostly a screw that gives a higher injection pressure will give a lower injection speed. It is therefore important to know the speed and pressure needed for your products as the two processes are affected by one injection moulding machine component.

Cost

Determine the amount you are able and willing to spend on an injection moulding machine and find the best machine to suit your requirements at the most affordable cost.

Easy to use

Go for a machine that is easy to operate and one that you can easily train your staff to use to avoid time wastage and defects arising from mishandling the machine.

There are many injection moulding machines in the market and picking the best can be a daunting task. The above tips will make it easier for you to make the right choice.
